SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Media Day and Action Sports Portraits
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for another entry in our series of portrait workshops where we will be creating dynamic lighting scenarios involving athletes\, recreating Media Day! Media Day portraits have become increasingly popular in the sporting world\, from the start of the sporting season to major sporting events and more. Media Day photos are used for promotional imagery to showcase the aura of the athlete. Media Day is essential in almost every high school and college. \nIn this workshop\, we will be posing athletes and creating lighting scenarios that all photographers can use as part of their arsenal when creating Media Day portraits. This is an excellent portfolio-building workshop!  We will work both indoors and outside. For indoors\, we will emphasize the use LED lighting\, including Nanlite and Aputure lighting\, as well as other elements that help build the atmosphere of your images! For outdoors\, we will use a combination of natural light and strobes to create the ultimate outdoor look! \nThis workshop will be co-taught by Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson and professional photographer Henry Marte. Both have extensive portrait experience and will take you through the full process of lighting a subject\, how to properly expose while using strobes\, and how to actually use the strobes themselves! \nPhotographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nAbout Henry Marte\nHenry is a published photographer and credited filmmaker. He specializes in various forms of photography\, including portrait\, events\, headshots\, drone\, and commercial photography. Other than attending MassArt’s Documentary Film School\, he is almost entirely self taught. He runs a small media production studio called Marte Media\, based out of Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. Some of his clients include Spartan Race\, UMass Lowell\, Phillips Academy\, Navigation Brewing Company\, and more. Originally from NYC\, he now calls Lowell\, Massachusetts his home. He enjoys New York style pizza\, walks with a camera\, and hiking to active volcanoes.

She created This Book is a Camera (MoMA)—which transforms into a working camera—and This Book is a Planetarium (Chronicle)—which houses paper devices (including a planetarium) and has sold more than 100\,000 copies. Alphabet in Motion\, an interactive book about typography and technology was published to wide acclaim in the Fall of 2025. Other projects include a viral paper record player and—with The Yes Men—a utopian counterfeited New York Times\, which won the Ars Electronica Prix. Doctors without Borders have used the award-winning Tinybop Human Body app she created to communicate illness and treatment nonverbally to their patients in remote areas. Clients include NPR\, the New Yorker\, the Guggenheim\, MoMA\, Apple\, and the New York Times.  She has been nominated for the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian National Design Award three times. She teaches at NYU and Cooper Union. \nJonathan Pitts-Wiley is a portrait photographer and co-founder of the Rhode Island-based Black photographer collective\, The Vanta Guild. In the summer of 2021\, Jonathan collaborated with renowned photographer Mary Beth Meehan to produce Witness\, an exhibition that explores the life and times of his late grandmother\, Annye Raye Pitts. In December 2022\, his was one of five portraits selected for the City of Providence’s “Who We Are Now?” public art banner project.\nA Yale graduate\, Jonathan is the Creative Director at Curiosity Store in Jamestown\, Rhode Island and has\, since 2010\, been the Artistic Director of Pawtucket\, RI’s Mixed Magic Theatre. Jonathan is married to Mixed Magic’s music director\, Kim Morrison Pitts-Wiley. The couple has two children. \nJonathan’s talk will be “Curtain Calling: The Theatrical Nature of Analog Photography”- In this talk\, Jonathan will discuss how his experience working in theater relates to how he approaches photography– both digital and film\, but also the instant photographic process. While digital photography is largely an after-the-fact medium (we’ll fix it in post!”)\, film photography\, and especially the instant photographic processes\, are a before-the-fact medium. Due to the unpredictable nature\, it becomes almost a “live performance”\, similar to theater! \nMaryjane Griffin is a North Shore based documentary photographer working primarily in film\, with a playful\, hands-on approach to image-making. She’s passionate about making photography feel fun and accessible\, and about sparking creativity in others through experimentation and process. Her ongoing passion project\, film soup\, involves soaking and altering analog film with seawater\, botanicals\, and other unexpected materials to create unpredictable\, textured results. At the Hunt’s Photo & Video Film Show\, she’ll share her approach to film soup and how embracing chance can open up a more intuitive\, creative way of working with film. \n  \nHunt’s Photo would like to acknowledge assistance from the following companies and brands for their support in putting this event together: \n-Freestyle Photo \n-Roberts Camera \n-Harmon Film \n-Fujifilm \n-Negative Supply \n-Ricoh Pentax

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Bugs in the Field with Emilie Talpin\, Kirkwood Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Educator Emily Hojnowski and guest photographer Emilie Talpin photographing BUGS in the field! On this workshop\, attendees will be hand held\, photographing close-up (macro) with an emphasis on bugs as we work our way through Kirkwood Gardens in Holderness\, NH.  \nAttendees should have a camera and macro lens\, but would also benefit from having a flash/speedlight for this workshop\, as well as a flash diffuser. We strongly recommend AK Diffuser\, who make custom diffusers for flash with macro. Feel free to reach out to us at classes@huntsphoto.com if you have questions! \nJoin us for this fun\, workshop! \n  \nAbout Emilie\nEmilie Talpin is an OM SYSTEM ambassador who grew up in Chalon sur Saône\, France\, the birthplace of Nicéphore Niépce and the first photograph. Despite this background\, she got into photography late and\, in 2018\, joined a local camera club where she met a group of talented photographers and was inspired to dive deeper into the art of capturing moments in time. She attributes part of her success as a photographer to switching from heavy and cumbersome gear to a camera system that is lighter and more versatile. She bought the OMD Em1 Mark II\, a wildlife and a macro lens\, and has never looked back. She is particularly interested in macro photography\, especially in the art of capturing water drop refraction. \nYou can read her articles: https://learnandsupport.getolympus.com/about-emilie-talpin\nContact\nInstagram: @emilietalpin ( https://www.instagram.com/emilietalpin/ )\nWebsite: https://emilietalpin.smugmug.com/ )\nYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsyFkE7rIxyID4-VRHcRXvg )

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: An Evening at Simon Pearce\, Quechee
DESCRIPTION:Join Emily Hojnowski as we photograph at Simon Pearce in Quechee\, VT. \nSimon Pearce is a glassblowing workshop powered by the Ottauquechee\, as well as a retail store and farm-to-table restaurant in Quechee\, Vermont. We’ll start the workshop by photographing the glassblowers at work\, getting details and abstract shots of the pieces of art in the showroom. Then\, we’ll head outside to work on landscapes and long exposures of the covered bridge and the falls using ND filters and CPL filters until it gets dark.  (Please note- despite ice and snow pictured in our long exposure shot above\, there should not be any ice at this time of year!) This is an excellent chance to use filters for the first time or the hundredth time. During this time\, we’ll discuss exposure and composition for our various subjects in the changing light.
